Fred Ernst founded Ernst Engineering with the goal to operate an engineering company with high integrity based on his professional values and beliefs. Fred recognized an important need in the industry for improved communication and execution in the project workflow from client to project manager, then on to project manager down to project engineers and designers.

Fred noticed how the communication of ideas, goals and specific client construction sequencing would often be misinterpreted, or not carried out. This sometimes ended up in costly mistakes, especially where large earthwork numbers and infrastructure costs are involved. Fred is involved with the planning and design effort on each project from the start. He enjoys the direct interaction and continual project communication with the client, all done in a concerted effort to meet the client's project goals.

Fred is highly proficient in AutoDesk Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, EPA SWMM and many other civil engineering design software programs. Fred has a broad engineering design skill set, and he enjoys doing the actual civil engineering design work on a variety of diverse projects. Fred is involved in the design of all projects, where he supervises and approves all work done by the civil designers at Ernst.

Fred recently managed a large repair project for an existing single-family golf course subdivision that was experiencing numerous problems due to swelling soils. Ernst Engineering provided analysis, design, construction observation and litigation support, for the entire five-year span of the project that was budgeted at $42 million.

Fred has worked in all phases of new residential, commercial and municipal projects since 1996.

Fred has extensive experience working in the oil and gas exploration industry where he designs oil terminal sites, access roads, storm drainage, pipeline corridors, drilling pads, compressor pads, frac fluid ponds and spill containment basins. When these activities have occurred on Federal lands, Fred has designed these facilities per Bureau of Land Management (BLM) guidelines for successful POD submittals.

Fred has vast experience on floodplain modeling analysis, defining floodways, and obtaining special flood hazard area (SFHA) permits for development within the 100-year floodplain fringe.
